Someone I trust sent me a video link last week and I’d like to
share it with you.
He warned me it was a 40 minute video but it was well worth
watching, so because I trusted him, I settled down with a cup of
coffee and watched it. Wow! It seems like it is about American
football but believe me – it isn’t. It’s about personal commitment
Let me explain.
As 2010 draws to a close I have been reflecting
about the year and thinking about 2011 and what I wanted it to be
like. I was focused on ‘doing’. What do I want to do? What do I
want to achieve? The questions the coach asked the football player
were “what are you really committed to? what is your personal inner
commitment?” It isn’t about DOING, it’s about a state of BEING. So
it’s not goals we want – it’s a statement of intent about who we
want to BE. Then it’s not about achieving or failing to achieve
certain goals, it’s about measuring everything we do against our
Statement of Intent and making sure it is aligned.
It’s almost a week since I watched that video and I have been
thinking about it every day since. And the comments on the website
and Facebook page that have been set up in response to the video,
have been just as inspirational. I haven’t yet decided what my
Personal Inner Commitment is for 2011 but I will share it with you
when I do.
So I invite you to watch the video and reflect on who YOU want to
be in 2011. If you would like to share your thoughts you can do
that here on this blog.
I look forward to continuing to connect with you in 2011 and wherever
you are and whatever you do I hope you have a wonderful New Year celebration.
